Background
ORGANIZATION HISTORY
Since its inception in 2006, by co-founders, actor Ric Reid, and director and educator, Kelly Daniels, Lyndesfarne Theatre Projects (LTP), a non-profit, registered charity, has become an integral part of the artistic and cultural landscape of the Niagara Region.
Entering into their seventh season, LTP is comprised of two Equity main stage productions for adults and youth, a six month professional training program for young people including a two week performance run, two vital outreach programs for at risk and disenfranchised children and youth, and a drama school which includes classes in acting, musical theatre and acting for the camera for youth beginning at age 12+.
Professional development and workshops over the past five years have focussed on working with the multi-award winning and internationally renowned Saratoga International Theatre Institute or SITI Co., from New York. This year, SITI Companys Artistic Associate and company member, Ellen Lauren and J Ed Araiza trained LTPs Young Company, the youngest company ever to be trained by SITI. Ellen teaches at Juilliard, and SITI Co. has recently trained such internationally renowned companies such as the Royal Shakespeare Company.
New this year, to raise the profile of the performing arts in downtown St. Catharines, LTP produced the Inaugural St. Catharines International Busker Festival and brought 20,000 people to downtown St. Catharines over a three day period. St. Catharines is now on the international tour and on the map!
LTPs annual budget is $345,000.00, and is run by Artistic Director, Kelly Daniels and Associate Artistic, Ric Reid. LTP employs one other full-time administrative associate, and several project positions including on average per season 4 8 actors, 4 6 program facilitators, 4 teaching artists, 10 guest teaching artists, and numerous designers, and production staff. LTP are the proud new tennants of office and creative space at 31 James Street in downtown St. Catharines, and perform regularly in The Sullivan Mahoney Courthouse Theatre.
This year, LTPs Artistic Director, Kelly Daniels, was named The Niagara Entrepreneur of the Year in the Tourism Enterprise category.
LTP looks forward to performing in St. Catharines new performing arts centre when it opens in 2013!
